The 1st Latin American Conference on Eye Movements (LACEM 2025) will be held in Viña del Mar, Chile, from December 10th to 12th, 2025. This inaugural event aims to establish an international platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration among researchers. The conference will foster communication and cooperation among professionals from diverse basic and applied fields, including psychology, linguistics, neurophysiology, computer science, education, and marketing. LACEM 2025 will primarily focus on research topics relevant to Latin America and the languages spoken in the region.
Keynote Lectures:
- Aline Godfroid (Michigan State University, USA) will present “Eye-Tracking in Instructed Second Language Acquisition: A Historical Perspective and a Call for Inclusive, Representative Research”. Dr. Godfroid is a Professor of Second Language Studies and TESOL at Michigan State University, with research focusing on second language acquisition, psycholinguistics, and vocabulary learning, utilizing eye-tracking and quantitative analysis.
- Johanna Kaakinen (University of Turku, Finland) will present “Cognitive Engagement During Reading”. Dr. Kaakinen is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Turku (Finland), and her work integrates psycholinguistics, reading comprehension, and eye-tracking.
Pre-conference Workshops (December 2025 in Viña del Mar, Chile):
- “Translating Research Questions into Eye Movement Studies” will be conducted by Denis Drieghe and João Vieira (University of Southampton). This workshop is designed to guide participants through the process of designing eye tracking experiments based on robust research questions, being relevant for both early-career and experienced researchers. Denis Drieghe is a Professor of Experimental Psychology, known for his work on parafoveal processing and cross-linguistic comparisons in reading. João Vieira is a PhD Candidate in Psychology at the University of Southampton.
- “Analyzing and Reporting Eye-Movement Data” will be led by Dr. Bernhard Angele (Bournemouth University). This pre-conference workshop will be held during LACEM 2025. Dr. Angele is a Principal Academic in Psychology at Bournemouth University, whose research focuses on eye movements and cognitive control in skilled adult reading, parafoveal preview effects, and the coordination between visual attention and language processing.

La Primera Conferencia Latinoamericana sobre Movimientos Oculares (LACEM 2025) se llevará a cabo en Viña del Mar, Chile, del 10 al 12 de diciembre de 2025. Este evento inaugural tiene como objetivo establecer una plataforma internacional para el intercambio de conocimientos y la colaboración entre investigadores. La conferencia fomentará la comunicación y cooperación entre profesionales de diversas disciplinas básicas y aplicadas, incluyendo psicología, lingüística, neurofisiología, informática, educación y marketing. El enfoque principal de LACEM 2025 será la investigación relevante para América Latina y los idiomas hablados en la región.
Ponencias Magistrales:
- Aline Godfroid (Michigan State University, EE. UU.) presentará “Eye-Tracking in Instructed Second Language Acquisition: A Historical Perspective and a Call for Inclusive, Representative Research”. La Dra. Godfroid es profesora de Estudios del Segundo Idioma y TESOL en Michigan State University, y su investigación se centra en la adquisición de segundas lenguas, la psicolingüística y el aprendizaje del vocabulario, con un enfoque metodológico en el uso del eye-tracking y el análisis cuantitativo.
- Johanna Kaakinen (University of Turku, Finlandia) presentará “Cognitive Engagement During Reading”. La Dra. Kaakinen es profesora de Psicología en la Universidad de Turku (Finlandia) y su trabajo integra la psicolingüística, la comprensión lectora y el eye-tracking.
Talleres Pre-conferencia (Diciembre de 2025 en Viña del Mar, Chile):
- “Translating Research Questions into Eye Movement Studies” será impartido por Denis Drieghe y João Vieira (University of Southampton). Este taller está diseñado para guiar a los participantes en el proceso de diseño de experimentos de seguimiento ocular basados en preguntas de investigación fundamentadas, siendo relevante tanto para investigadores noveles como experimentados. Denis Drieghe es Profesor de Psicología Experimental, reconocido por su trabajo en procesamiento parafoveal y comparaciones interlingüísticas en la lectura. João Vieira es Candidato a Doctorado en Psicología en la Universidad de Southampton.
- “Analyzing and Reporting Eye-Movement Data” será dirigido por el Dr. Bernhard Angele (Bournemouth University). Este taller pre-conferencia se llevará a cabo durante LACEM 2025. El Dr. Angele es Investigador Principal en Psicología en Bournemouth University y su investigación se enfoca en movimientos oculares y control cognitivo en la lectura adulta, efectos de vista previa parafoveal y la coordinación entre atención visual y procesamiento del lenguaje.
